From letting you know that a feature is on to reminding you to schedule service, your dashboard is loaded with useful information. To help drivers in Ithaca, Corning, and Binghamton know what their sedan is saying, Maguire Kia looks at some of the most common and important Kia Optima dashboard lights.

  • ECO Indicator - When you activate ECO mode, you'll see the word ECO light up on your instrument cluster. This is just to let you know that you've switched on the most fuel-efficient driving mode.
  • Electronic Stability Control - If you're driving through wet or slippery conditions, you may see an icon that looks like a car on a curvy road. It's your vehicle's way of letting you know that the Electronic Stability Control system has detected the slick terrain and turned itself on to provide you with more traction.
  • Malfunction Indicator Lamp - While this light has an official name, most drivers know it as the Check Engine light. That's because it looks just like your engine. There are a few things that can cause it light up, but usually it's the result of a malfunction in the emissions control system.
  • Anti-lock Brake System - A light with the letters ABS is a sign that there's a malfunction with the vehicle's anti-lock brake system. You'll still be able to safely slow down and stop using your main brakes, but you should get these looked at by a technician as quickly as possible.

  • Low Tire Pressure Warning - The Tire Pressure Monitoring System, or TPMS, keeps track of the air pressure in all four tires and the spare. If any of them are low on air, you'll see a light that looks like a wheel with an exclamation mark in the center of it.
  • Electronic Power Steering Warning - If there's ever a malfunction with your power steering system or you're low on power steering fluid, you'll see a light that looks like a steering wheel next to an exclamation mark. Usually this light is accompanied by some resistance when you're turning the steering wheel.
  • Engine Oil Pressure - Oil is one of the most important fluids inside your car. An oil change is a key part of your routine maintenance. If you're overdue for one, you will eventually see a light that looks like an old-fashioned oil can. Continuing to drive without enough oil can damage your engine, so schedule an oil change as quickly as possible.
  • Parking Brake & Brake Fluid Light - When you start your car, you'll see a light that says the word BRAKE with two circles above it. This will stay on for only a few seconds or until you disengage your parking brake. If your parking brake is not on and the light is still illuminated, it means that you're low on brake fluid.
