Kia Optima Fuel Economy

The Kia Optima offers three efficient gas-powered engines. The base engine is a 2.4 I-4 that can deliver an EPA-estimated 25 MPG city and 35 MPG highway.¹ This features a 6-speed automatic transmission and can produce up to 185 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque.

The second powertrain offered is slightly more efficient. It's a 1.6L turbocharged I-4 engine that can get up to an EPA-estimated 27 MPG city and 37 MPG highway.¹ The turbo design also helps it get up to 178 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. This option gets paired with a 7-speed Dual-Clutch Transmission.

The final option is a 2.0L turbocharged I-4 engine that gets up to an EPA-estimated 21 MPG city and 30 MPG highway.¹ This engine delivers extra muscle with 245 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. To manage this, you'll have a 6-speed Sportmatic® transmission.

The Kia Optima HEV has a 2.0L I-4 engine that's paired with a 50-horsepower electric motor and a 1.76-kilowatt lithium-ion battery. Together, this hybrid electric vehicle is able to deliver an EPA-estimated 39 MPG city and 45 MPG highway.¹ 

The other option is the Kia Optima PHEV. This plug-in electric hybrid has the same gas engine, but pairs it with a 66-horsepower electric motor and a 9.8-kilowatt lithium-ion battery. When switching off between each other, the PHEV powertrain can get an EPA-estimated 40 MPGe and a total driving range of up to 610 miles.²
