Midsize SUVs like the Kia Sorento and Honda Pilot offer room for the whole family and lots of features to give you a fun and safe drive. So, which one is right for you?

To help families in Ithaca, Corning, and Binghamton decide, Maguire Kia put together this 2019 Kia Sorento vs. Honda Pilot comparison.

Kia Sorento vs Honda Pilot Interior

The 2019 Kia Sorento has three rows of seats and room for up to seven people. It's designed to make getting in and out of the back row easy with a convenient center aisle and Sliding & Auto-Folding 2nd-row seats.

The 2019 Honda Pilot also has three rows of seats, but it doesn't make things as easy for your extra passengers. While it also has sliding 2nd-row seats, it doesn't offer captain's chairs or the center aisle until the top trim levels.

The Kia's cabin also offers more room to stretch out. There's 44.1 inches of front legroom and 39.4 inches of legroom in the middle seats. The Honda only has 40.9 inches of front legroom and 38.4 inches of legroom in the 2nd row.

On top of that, the Kia Sorento can stay cleaner inside with cloth seats with YES Essentials® Fabric Treatment. This stain resistant material prevents stains from spills and is not available in the Honda Pilot.

Kia Sorento vs Honda Pilot Infotainment System

The 2019 Kia Sorento has a standard 7-inch touchscreen display on top of its dashboard. This has a built-in smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay™, Android Auto™, and Bluetooth®.

That gives you the ability to do everything from access your favorite apps, play your music and podcasts, talk to text, and make hands-free calls.

The standard infotainment system in the 2019 Honda Pilot is just a 5-inch LCD screen. While it is Bluetooth® compatible, the base trim does not offer an SMS Text Message Function, Apple CarPlay™, or Android Auto™.

Kia Sorento vs Honda Pilot Safety

The 2019 Kia Sorento also delivers peace of mind with lots of safety features and a strong, reinforced frame. It's built with side-impact door beams and both front and rear crumple zones.

The interior is protected by six airbags, including side curtain airbags that cover both the first and second rows of seats.

There is also lots of technology available to help prevent accidents. You'll have more awareness of what's around your SUV thanks to driver assistance features, such as:

  • Forward Collision Avoidance with Pedestrian Detection
  • Driver Attention Warning
  • Lane Keeping Assist
  • Bling Spot Collision Warning

You can also look around your SUV. It builds on the standard Rear-Camera Display by using four cameras to turn your infotainment screen into a Surround View Monitor and create an aerial view of your SUV.

With all these features and its solid frame, the Kia Sorrento has been named a 2019 TOP SAFETY PICK+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The 2019 Honda Pilot also has side curtain airbags and lots of driver assistance features. However, it doesn't offer anything like a Driver Attention Warning or the Surround View Monitor. As a result, it didn't earn the same safety awards from IIHS.
